A guide to the West Country from the people that know…

St Mawes

St Mawes takes the Cornish coast to a very classy standard; perching on the unspoilt Roseland peninsula, the surrounding countryside is outstanding. St Mawes is also well known for its foot ferry to Falmouth and is home to the best preserved of Henry VIII's coastal fortresses, St Mawes Castle.

St Mawes

All fantastic except the beaches, sea weed is a problem. I think the council clean the sea weed once per fortnight, took my grandchildren down and couldn’t sit down anywhere. I hear the council have just doubled the council tax for holiday lets. Let’s hope the council keep it cleaner with their windfall. I’m a tourist not an owner.

Lovely day in April

We visited St Mawes on a day which showed it off to it's best. We walked to the castle and round the corner enjoying the views. Hopefully when the impact of covid is over there will be more cafes open and places to sit out along the front.
