A guide to the West Country from the people that know…

St Mawes Castle

This impressive castle is one of the best-preserved of Henry VIII's coastal fortresses. Together with Pendennis Castle on the other side of the Fal Estaury, St Mawes stood guard against attacks from France and Spain during the 16th Century. Today, its superb location, with stunning views of the coastline, makes it a great spot to enjoy a picnic. Take the ferry from Falmouth for a day out without the car.
