A guide to the West Country from the people that know…

Newtown National Nature Reserve

Saved from developers in the 1960's by local residents who conducted wildlife studies to prove the importance of the area, it is now a National Trust reserve worth a visit. There's a combination of landscapes to explore including salt marsh, hay meadows and a harbour. Wildlife includes the red squirrel, rare butterflies and a host of birds. There's a free car park, toilets and volunteers to welcome you during high season. Take a look at the National Trust website for further info.
