Sheltered, attractive pebbly beach at high tide. At low tide, sand and rocks are exposed with plenty of rock pools to explore. Reached via a wooded valley.

From the National Trust car park, it's a bit of a steep climb down to this secluded beach, but that makes it a good spot to escape the crowds. Sandy at low tide.

This small peaceful cove is famous for its zigzag formation towering high above the shore. The shingle beach provides a haven for those wanting to wave watch or observe the wildlife. Why not take a wander south to Butterfly Valley?

Just along the coast from the busy resort of Bude, Widemouth is a long, long stretch of sand backed by high cliffs. Unusual rock formations on the beach are a magnet for climbers while the Atlantic surf brings bodyboarders, kayakers and surfers here in their hundreds. Widemouth Bay is home to a scattering of houses, pubs, cafes and restaurants but there remains a definitive sense of having strayed off the beaten path here. There is a section open to dogs all year round, loads of parking and several surf schools.
Park next to the canal in the centre of Bude and walk the length of Breakwater Road and then the coastal path. The beach is very rocky and swimming is not recommended. Experienced surfers are sometimes seen here but it's not suitable for beginners. Dogs are welcome year round.
Not for the faint hearted, this beach is adjoining Cancleave Strand and is accessed from the coastal path via an abseil down a 20m rope. Both beaches are beneath high cliffs which are constantly being eroded. Dogs are welcome but we are not sure how your dog will reach the beach, unless of course Patch is able to abseil.
The beach itself is nothing special, shingle and stone with little or no beach at high water. Access is arduous with a lengthy decent down the cliff path and a 20m abseil at the bottom down a rope.
Follow the coastal path to Storm Tower. Walk for another 200 metres towards the southerly end and there's a very narrow and steep path. Great care should be taken as access is difficult. Once on the beach, Compass Cove has grey sand and shingle with interesting rock formations. Swimming is not recommended, nor is surfing. Dogs are allowed year round.
