Meet the Cheddar Man, Britain's oldest complete skeleton. Learn the ancient skills of flint-knapping and fire-lighting from hunter-gatherers at the Museum of Prehistory. Set in 51 acres of glorious Somerset countryside, Ferne is home to over 300 animals. Take a stroll on the nature trail, have a picnic and visit the animals from donkeys to chipmunks. Dogs on leads are welcome.

Take a trip back to an era of steam and soak up the atmosphere of bygone days. Twenty miles of track wends its way through the Somerset scenery from Bishops Lydeard, northwards below the Quantock Hills to the coast at Watchet and Blue Anchor, arriving at the end of the line at the seaside holiday town of Minehead. Stop off along the way to explore one of the restored stations, or just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.
At eleven acres this is a pretty small park however it more than makes up for this with it's stunning views across the city, hills and woodland. There's a fairly hilly walk if you go on foot from the centre however there is free parking in designated areas and good disabled access. A kids play area, bowling green and outdoor table tennis are available.
Drag the children away from their computers and entertain them outside, for free! Acres of parkland and lakes with picnic spots, fishing by permit, trees for climbing and space to just play.
