A guide to the West Country from the people that know…

Somerset Cider Brandy

Martock has been the home to Somerset Cider Brandy since 1679, 101 years before Napolean was born and grew a liking for brandy. He'd have scrumped here. These fanatical orchardists make a cider brandy that is close to getting the rubber stamp from Brussels to call itself just that, 'Cider Brandy'. If you fancy a glug, try ‘Shipwreck’. This ten-year old gem was finished in Allier oak casks salvaged (legally) from MSC Napoli that sank off Branscombe in 2007. Stroll through the orchards and sample brandies, ciders, cider vinegar and apple juices, all produced from apples grown on the farm.
