Sennen Cove Lifeboat Station

England's most westerly lifeboat station was built in 1853. Since then the crews here have saved many lives from the dangerous waters around Land's End. Come to one of the open days in summer for the chance to climb aboard and look around a working lifeboat.

Lifeboats, a vital industry off this coast

Our visit to the Sennen Lifeboat station has meant us becoming lifeboat supporters. The Lifeboat is on view, when not in use, and there's plenty of information about the work it does, and about the crews' lives. A really interesting place to go when looking for activities with schoolchildren and the weather is less than beachy. You can also read about the history of the Lifeboats and Coastguards in a book about Sennen written by the local history society (hunt on Amazon). Maybe I am biased: there are Cornish Coastguards in the history of the family!

When you are in Sennen Cove, enjoying the fantastic beach and the other features of this beautiful place, you should also visit the lifeboat station and see the superb new Tamar Class boat, City of London 3, "up close and personal". Read the role of honour and marvel at the courage and self-sacrifice of the volunteers who regularly risk their lives to save others.
