Set in a peaceful wooded valley on Dartmoor, The Heathercombe estate comprises 30 acres of woodland with an arboretum, streams and ponds, plus a cottage garden, orchard and wild flower meadow. There are over 1000 well-labelled specimen shrubs and trees here. The 100 varieties of rhodendron lend a splash of colour, and with one and a half miles of woodland walks and paths there's ample room to stretch your legs.

Loads to do here, with lots of animals to see and touch, including some unusual creatures such as twin Gambian rats the size of cats and woolly 'sheep-pigs'!

Enter the woods via Manaton Road north of Bovey Tracey and enjoy wildlife trails with hides through the oak woodland and heathland. Spot Pied Flycatchers, Redstarts, Wood Warblers and Tree Pipits. If you are really lucky you may see a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker.
This is home to the remains of 24 round houses thought to date back to the Bronze Age, some sited on their own and others grouped together. These all lie within a perimeter stone wall and the entire site can be fabulously viewed from Hookney Point.
Said to have been the inspiration for Conan Doyle's 'The Hound of the Baskervilles'. The Hound Tor area of Dartmoor is famed for its ghosts. The excavated remains of a medieval Devon village clearly showing the layout of four longhouses and barns shelters on the northern slopes of the tor, commanding superb views across Dartmoor.
Deep in the heart of the moor, this pottery uses materials from Dartmoor itself to create ceramics.
An old brewery dating from the 16th Century, now serving as the village hall.
They're very cute and sometimes there are foals for sale, so be prepared for some high-octane nagging.
