Historically one of Britain's most vital ports, now home to the National Maritime Museum. Falmouth is a thriving resort (check out the flash yachts in the harbour), a rich centre for art, including one of the country's best art schools, and a great collection of beaches.
A coastal village on the Roseland peninsula, a few miles south of Truro. It is still an active fishing village due to its sheltered location on the east coast of the peninsula and was featured on 'ITV's 'Cornwall with Caroline Quentin'.
Veryan is most famous for its nineteenth century thatched Round Houses of which there are five, two pairs of which stand at each end of the village and another in the centre. It has a pub, a grocery shop, an off-licence and a Post Office.
Flushing lies across the water from Falmouth and rumour has it that this atmospheric village enjoys the mildest climate in the country. With sandy beaches, friendly pubs and lush, green woodland surrounding it; Flushing is a wonderfully relaxing oasis at any time of year.
The Roseland Peninsula is one of the most picturesque and unspoilt areas within the United Kingdom. With miles of the South West Coast Path to explore, flower covered pubs, riverside barbeques, paint box cottages, cream tea cafes and restaurants of high repute there is little more that you could ask for for your holiday. Spring comes early to the Cornish gardens here and the beaches, coves and creeks are numerous and idyllic.
Lying on the shore of the River Fal, the village of Feock can be reached easily fom Falmouth or Truro by road or by the King Harry Ferry. Trelissick House and Garden are to the west. Tregew, a former farmhouse, dates back to 1315. From nearby Loe Beach 30 or more oyster boats can be seen working during the winter months.
The best of all things Cornish come in little local packages, like Gerrans on the Roseland peninsula. Just inland from the beaches and harbour at Portscatho, beautiful walks and views are all around, as well as plentiful village shops, a 13th Century church with octangonal steeple, the Royal Standard pub and village life.
This crossroads village near Falmouth sits by the beautiful Helford River. The blacksmith's Smithy, once the centre of village life here, has been restored to its former glory and houses workshops for local crafts.
Sitting at the head of Mylor Creek, Mylor Bridge is a pretty little Cornish village, midway between Falmouth and Truro on the westerly side of the Fal Estuary. Park at Mill Quay car park and explore the coast path followed by refreshments at The Lemons Arms Pub.
Falmouth's smaller neighbour doesn't get much of a look in, being in the shadows of the fourth best place to live in England. But it has plenty to offer for those put off by the bright lights of a busy town. It is situated at the head of the Penryn river and surrounded by the pretty little villages of the Helford. Easy access to other areas of the far west is facilitated by the proximity of the A39 yet you've the sea views and harbour delights of a coastal town to enjoy. And did you know, Penryn is the oldest market town in Cornwall? So there's plenty of historical architecture and landscapes to explore.
