Portscatho to Pendower Beach Walk

Park in Porthcurnick car park and follow the path through the gate and turn left downhill to meet the coastal path. With the sea on your righthand side follow the coastal path past the beaches of Porthcurnick, Pendower and Carne. The path is clearly marked but has stiles and access is limited for wheelchair users and pushchairs. When you reach Pendower you can take an alternative path inland and then onto a lane to return to Porthcurnick. The distance is approximately 4 miles and all areas are dog friendly.

Kennall Vale Gunpowder Works

Tucked away in a wooded valley near the village of Ponsanooth, the old Gunpowder Works were in operation from the 1800s until the early 20th Century, when they were forced to close due to the invention of dynamite. Today, the remains stand in a nature reserve maintained by The Cornwall Wildlife Trust. The old ruins, beech woods and Kennall river make for a pleasant walk. Park in the village of Ponsanooth, walk past the shop and up the steep hill. The reserve entrance is on your right.

Froe Creek Circular

Park at Porth and head towards Towan beach and pick up the coastal path by turning right (the sea will be on your left). Follow the path all the way around to St Anthony Head where you can explore the battery and see the lighthouse. Carry on to Place House where you can either continue along the coastal path back to Porth or head inland to Bohortha and follow the path from there. Parts of the coastal path are hilly and not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. Enjoy a cuppa when you reach Porth where the Thirsty Tea van parks during the summer months.

Pendower to Carne Beach

Parking is available at either Carne or Pendower and there's access from both down on to the beach or walk along the cliff path. Carne beach and Pendower beach join each other and you will find a great expanse of sand to enjoy. Dogs are allowed but must be on a lead from May to September.

Place Landing circular walk to Portscatho

Take a full day to enjoy this wonderful coastal walk. Take the ferry from St Mawes to Place and follow the coastal path to Portheor and Towan beach. Enjoy lunch in Portscatho then walk up the hill to Gerrans Church along the lane towards Porth. Follow the signs along the shores of Porth Creek to North Hill Point until the path runs along the banks of Percuil River back to where you started. With stunning views and great places for lunch in Portscatho, this 9 mile walk is well worth the effort.

St Anthony Head and Place Walk

Park in the car park at St Anthony Head and you can take either a short, level walk there and back to the Stile above Porthbeor Beach or venture further for on a four and a half mile jaunt. The coastal path will take you around the headland (you just can't miss the stunning views) taking in the battery observation post and ramparts. Carry on along the path to Porthbeor Beach (no access due to storm damage) and above the beach take the short link path to the road into Bohortha. Continue to the lane near Place House and pick up the coastal path again back to the car park. There are no facilities on this walk but it is great for kids who can see the lighthouse and wartime features. Good for dogs but do take care on cliff sections. You can also catch the ferry from st Mawes to Place and start the walk from there.

St Mawes Headland Walk

Start from St Mawes harbour and head up towards the castle. Follow the coastal path for about a mile, taking the right hand fork which takes you inland to the A3078. Turn right and in 100 yards pick up another path on the left. The path then doubles back on itself for another 100 yards and then turn left past Boslogga and Percuil River. Follow the riverbank back towards St Mawes. Enjoy stunning coastal views on this 3 and a half mile gentle trek.
