Honiton Hot Pennies Day

A tradition dating back to the 13th century when pennies were thrown from the Assembly Rooms and public houses into hoards of scrabbling children. In the olden days the pennies were thrown hot, much to the amusement of the local gentry who delighted in watching peasants buring their fingers. These days the coins are warm so you shouldn't need gloves!l
