Valley of the Rocks

A truly dramatic landscape that has to be seen to be believed. Over many thousands of years, the elements have chiselled the sandstone, slate and limestone rock into strange and precarious formations. The Valley of the Rocks sits near the edge of Exmoor, where moorland plunges into cliffs to meet the sea, making for some superb walking. Start at the coastal town of Lynton, to the east of the Valley, for a circular five mile ramble that takes in moors, clifftops and stunning views across the Valley and out to sea. Don't forget to pack a picnic.

On the edge of Exmoor in a glorious secluded valley, Brendon House is a fine place for a cream tea on a sunny afternoon. It's also a great centre for walking, cycling and horse riding. You can purchase Environmental Agency fishing permits here for the East Lyn river, home to salmon, sea trout and brown trout.

Cherryford Hill

Not for the faint hearted, this bracing six mile walk takes you around the rocky headland high above the sea, through ancient woodland and then up onto Martinhoe Common. The breathtaking coastal waterfall should make the climb worth it!

Martinhoe Fortlet Walk

A challenging walk ( just over five miles) taking in a green Roman Carriageway high above the sea, woodland and one of England's highest coastal waterfalls in a key geological site. the walk starts and ends at the Hunter's Inn which sounds like a good excuse for a pint!

Wester Wood

You will need a head for heights for this walk as in places the path is narrow and the drop to the sea can be quite daunting. Don't let that put you off though as this walk takes in peaceful woodland and waterfalls along the river. A great walk to take your dog on as it passes a beach and pubs where dogs are welcome.
