Home to the Hythe ferry for day trips to Southampton, the Victorian pier is a prominent feature of the New Forest waterfront. The marina is filled with watercraft of all shapes and sizes and has a great history of maiden voyages, from the Titanic to the QE2 and modern superliners, with the hovercraft being born here. It's a maritime marvel town that also lays claim to famous residents such as Lawrence of Arabia. One last claim to fame - the oldest working pier train in the world is here.
The capital of the New Forest, thanks to William the Conqueror's hunting habits, Lyndhurst has been a Royal mecca for centuries. The perfect base for finding out all about the New Forest, the main museum is here, as well as wonderful walks and the final resting place of the actual Alice from Alice in Wonderland.
Things of note about the lovely little parish of Minstead are the ancient church with rare pulpit and C11 font, and the grave of Sire Arthur Conan Doyle.
