The Lost Gardens of Heligan

The Eden Project

It hardly needs any introduction…This global garden with its iconic Biomes is home to millions of plants and flowers reflecting the diversity of our planet. Marvel at the largest greenhouse in the world, see internationally-acclaimed architecture and art inspired by nature, or go to a gig at the renowned Eden Sessions. Children can learn about humans' complex relationship with nature in The Core interactive education centre or go free-range and explore trails, hideaways and sandpits. A wide range of cafes and restaurants provide delicious, responsibly-resourced refuelling stops and the shop is crammed full of interesting gift and souvenir ideas. An organic project that just keeps on growing, a visit to The Eden Project is an awe-inspiring experience. You can also have a go on the new zip wire, reported to be the longest in England - go on, you know you want to!!

Luxulyan Valley World Heritage Site

Situated in south east Cornwall with miles of walks through the hidden steep-sided thickly-wooded River Par valley, the Luxulyan Valley was designated a World Heritage Site in 2006 due to its major concentration of industrial remains, the majority of which are as a result of the work of Joseph Treffry (1782 -1850). Treffry owned one of the largest copper mines which at its peak was worked by 17 water wheels and six steam engines. Treffry's viaduct, the abundant industrial remains and the breathtaking natural beauty of this area make it a truly unique site in the South West.

A teeny tiny one roomed musuem packed to the rafters with interesting items all about the town, harbour and the local population. Open from Easter to September, check their website for opening times and prices.

Mevagissey Aquarium

Perched on the edge of the harbour in the old lifeboat station, this cute little aquarium is home to some unusual species and all are caught and donated by local fishermen. It is tiny so don't expect Sea World but it is worth a visit and is free (donations gratefully received).

Mevagissey Model Railway

A model train lovers delight. Open from March to October, visitors will see over 30 trains travelling through towns, country, seaside and alpine winter. There's a Junior Junction for youngsters with Hornby Thomas The Tank Engine and there's even a garden railway (indoors!).
