One of the larger New Forest villages, surrounded by open heathland and woodland walks, there's a 'watersplash' where wild beasts of the bovine and equine varieties congregate having wandered the streets of this olde worlde town.
Bordered by the Beaulieu river and the shore of the Solent, Exbury is known for its world famous gardens that were created by Lionel De Rothschild one hundred years ago. Seasonal changes are most apparent here, so rock up in Spring or get to the hues in Autumn.
Home to the Hythe ferry for day trips to Southampton, the Victorian pier is a prominent feature of the New Forest waterfront. The marina is filled with watercraft of all shapes and sizes and has a great history of maiden voyages, from the Titanic to the QE2 and modern superliners, with the hovercraft being born here. It's a maritime marvel town that also lays claim to famous residents such as Lawrence of Arabia. One last claim to fame - the oldest working pier train in the world is here.

Lymington is a pretty Georgian town with its open air seawater bath and marina that sailing enthusiasts flock to from all over the world. Or pop on the car ferry to the Isle of Wight.
