Chard Reservoir Nature Reserve

This idyllic reserve has wildflower meadows (at their most beautiful during spring), and woodlands which edge the reservoir. There are several hides, perfect for nature watching throughout the seasons. Open year round, the reserve is just a 15 minute walk from Chard town centre, or use one of two car parks.

Clatworthy Reservoir

The reservoir is a fishermans delight but is also a lovely walk. Five miles of undulating pathway takes you around the perimeter with views of the surrounding West Somerset hills. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed.

An absolute must for anyone staying in the area, this gem of a walk takes you to one of the oldest bridges in the world, through a peaceful valley and ancient woodland. Choose from a short stroll to a longer 12 mile trek.

Burrington Combe

Climb the steep side of the gorge to reach the top which looks out over the stunning heathland. There are nurmerous caves to explore throughout this wooded walk.

Dunkery Beacon

Drive up onto Exmoor from Wheddon Cross and park at Dunkery Gate just as you get on National Trust land, then choose an open moorland walk to the top of Dunkery Beacon via a long or short route, where you will get a view over Porlock and across the Bristol Channel to Wales.

There are six different sections to this walk, which extend from coast to coast. The walk runs along the river,where you can take in the stunning scenery of the Somerset Levels and witness the abundance of wildlife!

A moderate two and a half mile walk which takes you through some lovely South Somerset countryside and you can visit the grand Ham stone church of Shepton Beauchamp on the way. Suitable for dogs with some stiles, steps and kissing gates en route.

Batcombe Walk

*Recommended by a Classic Owner* Park in the hamlet of Spargrove and take a circular walk on footpaths and pretty lanes through the surrounding villages of Westcombe, Honeycliff and into Batcombe. Take the footpath along the pretty river of Alham for your return through Batcombe Bottom. Approximately 4 miles.
