With 11 miles of canal path to explore, you'll be glad you opted to hire a bike. They offer tag- alongs, tandems and baby seats - making for a fun filled family day out!
Hire a bike and enjoy the freedom of cycling on the traffic free Granite Way. They have a large fleet of Giant bikes with tag-a-longs and trailer bikes for youngsters. Check opening times on their Web site as they are only open off season by arrangement.
A pretty established nature reserve consisting of grassland, meadows, woodland and ponds, and all the associated flora and fauna including orchids, butterflies, dragonflies and hares. The area is accessed via the famous Tarka Trail so don your walking boots or cycle helmets and get out in the great outdoors (not currently entirely suitable for poor mobility or pushchairs). It is also connected to the Devon Wildlife Trust's newest acquisition, the Meeth Quarry Nature Reserve, if you fancy a longer walk.

On the edge of Exmoor in a glorious secluded valley, Brendon House is a fine place for a cream tea on a sunny afternoon. It's also a great centre for walking, cycling and horse riding. You can purchase Environmental Agency fishing permits here for the East Lyn river, home to salmon, sea trout and brown trout.
Located on the corner of Golf Links Road and Avon Lane (opposite the cricket club in the old tennis pavillion), you will find bike hire available 7 days a week (depending on the weather! A youth training project run the Happy Cafe from the main building so you may be lucky enough to enjoy a spot of tea when you have finished your bike ride.
Situated on the Granite Way, this is the perfect place to hire bikes and explore the surrounding countryside. Bikes are available for all the family with accessories including tag-a-longs and trailers for dogs. The Granite Way is mainly a traffic free cycle route from Okehampton to Lydford and has refreshments stops along the route.
The old railway track that runs between Halwill Junction and Cookworthy Forest has been turned into a cycle path and nature reserve.
Situated on the Tarka Trail, a great route for cyclists and walkers, this former quarry is a spectacular landscape transformed in recent years by the Devon Wildlife Trust into a nature reserve. It's definitely one to watch, with potential to become a flagship site as it becomes more established. Covering 370 acres with massive lakes to walk around, this is perfect for winter wildlife watching as well as summer strolls. There are colour coded trails to follow, suitable for mobility scooters and you can carry on down to the more established nature reserve at Ash Moor.
