The Needles Old Battery and New Battery

Pay a visit here and enjoy panoramic views of the Needles along with the opportunity to explore the Old and New Batterys' perched high upon the cliffs. There's exhibitions, memorabilia, a tearoom and stunning cliff top walks from Needles Headland to Freshwater. Check opening times on the National Trust website and note the property does close in high winds.

Adgestone Vineyard

Try an audio tour around the vineyard and see the oldest commercial wine cellars in England. You can even purchase wine with a personalised label. Kids will enjoy the free range chickens and treasure hunt whilst you try out the contemporary cafe for a light lunch or afternoon tea.

Appley Tower

Originally built as a garden folly in the grounds of Appley House in 1875. The house has long since gone but the tower remains and stands at the eastern end of the Esplanade. If you are visiting the Appley Beach or walking the coastal path towards Seaview you cannot and would not want to miss the tower.

Appuldurcombe House

An English Heritage property built in the18th century. Internally the house is derelict but you can still walk around the dirt path round the estate. Open from April to October, check the website for opening times. Car parking is available but there are no other facilities.

Bembridge Fort

Built in Victorian times, this unrestored fort is open for volunteer run only guided tours from April to October. Parking is available nearby and the views both inland and across the Solent from the top of the Downs are stunning. Great place for a dog walk with loads of footpaths.

Bembridge House Boats

If you are in Bembridge take a walk down to the harbour. Past the Pilot Boat Inn along the waterfront you will pass a row of residential house boats. An eclectic assortment of floating homes, small, large and colourful. Take your camera, they make a wonderful backdrop to the harbour scene.

Bembridge Windmill

The only windmill in existence on the island. A Grade 1 listed building which was built around 1700 and still has most of its original machinery. Discover how the mill worked and climb to the top of the four floors. Only open from April to October so check their website before to visit to ensure its open.

Brading Roman Villa

In 1879 local children found some pieces of pottery and showed them to retired Army Captain John Thorp who then used a probe to find the whereabouts of the villa. Since then the villa has been gradually unearthed and can be dated back to the mid 3rd century. Nowadays the villa forms part of an award wining visitor centre with cafe, shop and garden.

Brading Station Heritage Exhibition and Visitor Centre

Open from May until October this working station has direct connections to the Wightlink Ferry at Ryde Pier Head with stops at Ryde, Smallbrook, Sandown, Lake and Shanklin. The station has a tea room, station masters office, porters room, shop and small museum.

Carisbrooke Castle

A real castle! Within the grounds you'll discover a facinating museum, donkeys and an Edwardian garden. Outside a walk around the battlements will give you views across the island and you can have a go at firing a mini-cannon in the gatehouse.
