Pevensey Bay Beach

William the Conqueror landed here in 1066 before the historic Battle of Hastings. At the time the harbour was a bustling port but over time the coast has receded and now the local village is over a mile away from the beach. These days the shingle beach is pretty quiet with good views over the channel. Pay and display parking is available nearby and dogs are allowed although restrictions may apply in high season.

One of only a few sandy beaches in Sussex, Camber Sands is a vast unspoilt beach, perfect for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Dogs are allowed but local restrictions apply. There's a large car park (charges apply), and cafe.

Eastbourne has a magnificent five miles of seafront with beautiful beaches, a long promenade, Victorian pier and bandstand. The beaches are well-kept and perfect for family days out and swimming when conditions allow. When refreshments are in order, there are plenty of cafes to choose from.

Located between Hastings and Rye, Pett Level is a quiet, pebbly beach with sand appearing at low tide. Behind the beach you will find Pett Pools, four shallow man-made lakes and an ideal place for bird watching. Dog restrictions apply during summer months.

Rock-a-Nore Beach

Located on the eastern edge of Hastings, Rock-a-Nore beach is a combination of shingle, sand and rock and is perfect for wildlife spotters. The beach is backed by dramatic cliffs which are known for their nesting sea birds.

Seaford Beach

A long four mile shingle beach with no sand in sight, so whilst you won't be building sandcastles you can enjoy clear waters and great views towards Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters. You'll find a good number of cafes close by and a cycle path which runs along the back of the beach. Parking is usually available on nearby side roads. Volunteer lifeguards patrol the area during summer months and there is a seasonal dog ban on the central section of the beach only.

Winchelsea Beach

Winchelsea is a quiet village with a gently sloping beach of shingle. Sand is exposed at low tide. There are lovely views south east towards Camber Sands and Dungeness and Rye Nature Reserve is just a short walk away to the east. There is no lifeguard cover and dog restrictions apply, although there is a dog exercise area.
