Now a National Trust property, Clouds Hill was once the Dorset home of Lawrence of Arabia. There is an exhibition detailing Lawrence's extraordinary life and his grave can be found in the churchyard of St Nicholas Church in Moreton. There is also a beautiful new trail through rhododendrons to a delightful picnic spot on top of the hill. House open March to October only.
This privately owned museum is situated within a grade 1 listed building which was once a church. With a huge array of fossils and exhibitions it is well worth a visit. Please check their website for opening times.
In two historic buildings, this museum has eight galleries which tell the story of life in the area, dating back to before Alfred the Great. The museum is run by volunteers and a visit will support their good works.
This museum is quite unusual as it lies within a tradtional sandstone cottage! It is brimming with local history and has a stunning garden with fabulous views. Usually open April until October, please check to avoid disappointment.
A small interesting museum packed with the history of the HMYO1. Adminsion is free and donations are welcome. Check opening times before you visit as it's not open every day of the week.
Built on the site of the fossilist Mary Annings home, as you would expect this museum is jam packed full of all things fossil. You can join a fossil walk, take a tour of the museum or learn how to polish a fossil, there's always lots of events taking place.
Visit here to see the amazing collection of fossils discovered and researched by local man Steve Etches. The collection is testament to his diligence and determination and recognises this by the naming of the collection "The Etches Collection". Call in for an experince taking you back in time.
This museums displays feature over four floors of this 19th century warehouse. With local pottery and art on show, there's lots to see.
With many specialist themes including Sea & Shipwrecks and Local Archaeology, you will find plenty to interest you here. The Museum has undertaken a major makeover in the last two years and is well worth a return or first time visit.
