Loe Bar Beach

An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Loe Bar is a sandbank that formed in the 12th or 13th Century. Strong currents make it unsuitable for swimming here, but it is a popular spot for sea fishing and kite flying, while Loe Pool is a haven for bird watchers. The area is great for walking; particularly the circular walk from Porthleven around Loe Pool.

Lake Sea Lake Sea what?!

What's this about? Look one way - there's the sea - look the other - there's a lake! It's very strange and rather compelling. Sitting on the sand with such a change of scene depending on a turn of the head. The sea looks very appealling, (naturally), but don't go in; there are very strong currents and sudden large waves. According to legend, a victim is claimed there every 7 years so watch your step! I ventured close a couple of times and thought to dip a toe in, but wasn't brave/stupid enough. Lovely walk through the woods around the lake, NT car park nearby. *sigh* wish I was there.

MY FAVOURITE BEACH IN THE WORLD!

I travel all over the world with work, but this has to be the best, most unspoilt beach ANYWHERE. Long, with amazing waves in the winter & totally unspoilt, you can go there on a boiling hot Bank Holiday & it's never crowded. Dogs are welcome too, but only in certain areas which keeps everyone happy!

A very enjoyable walk from Porthleven to Loe Pool. A must if you are staying in the area.
