The south Devon section of the South West Coast Path is packed with contrasting landscapes. Around the South Hams, estuaries nibble at the coastline and create sheltered idylls of calm waters and wooded banks. Further east are dramatic cliffs and headlands where stormy seas often batter the coast. The East Devon Way is a 40 mile route over well marked paths from Exmouth to Lyme Regis, passing through many Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s a good choice if the coastal winds are making hard going of the coast path.
