We’d like to let you in on a secret. From Bodmin Moor in Cornwall to the edge of Dartmoor in Devon, you’ll find a hidden little corner of loveliness. This is the road less travelled - a Cornwall of peaceful villages, pristine yet ancient architecture and wild and beautiful moorland.
There is lots of adventure to be had here - the Tamar River provides endless opportunities to get out on the water, whether that be under your own steam by canoe or on one of the many pleasure boats that ply this wide and wondrous expanse of water. Colliford and Siblyback lakes are perfect places if you fancy a go at sailing, kayaking or windsurfing - calm waters are always a big encouragement for learners. Caving, climbing and orienteering on Bodmin Moor are all thrilling ways to explore the great outdoors - just beware the infamous beast…
If you like to keep your adrenaline levels a little lower, Bodmin Moor offers everything that Dartmoor provides, yet it generally receives less visitors. Following the paths around Bodmin’s tors affords the walker incredible views over the countryside and often out to the coast. This piece of wilderness is also ideal for those of an equestrian bent - there are plenty of stables offering peaceful rides over the moor.
Plymouth, once a down-at-heel dock, is in the throes of regeneration; this city now has some of the region's best shopping, eating and arts. Though Plymouth is becoming a very contemporary centre for visitors, you won’t have to look far to find the dramatic history of this area. The architecture in every town and village presents a living guide to the past going back over thousands of years; Launceston Castle demonstrates a violent history, while the many standing stones dotting the moorland inspire a slightly spooky feel.
If you are hungering for some peace and longing to take a trip off the beaten track, then Between the Moors has the answer. Just try not to tell too many people about it.
