We went to the Standard for a drink one evening and dinner on another. I learnt my lesson when we went for the drink to check the wine list next time as I was charged appropriately £25 for two glasses of wine.
We were disappointed with the portion size of the meal. The food was tasty but having had the chicken main I got about 5 mouthfuls of chicken and mash. You had to order veg separately which I only noticed afterwards but at £20 for the main I wasn’t expecting to need toast an hour later. I think there is room to improve their ability to cater for a wider audience and not just those who like to take photos of their food.

We visited the Standard on 2 occasions last September and had excellent meals both in the garden and inside. We therefore had to visit again with family visiting from the USA this March and had another excellent meal. The inside is a little cramped but the staff are very knowledgeable and provide an excellent service to match the food.

Top notch gastro pub now, had a pint in the bar as we looked at the delicious menu, not so child friendly so we will try it another time. Mind your head in the dark doorway!
