Rick Stein's Fish and Chips

Rick Stein has brought his successful formula to Falmouth. The menu is similar to Stein's Fish and Chips in Padstow with the restaurant and takeaway serving up traditional favourites such as fish 'n' chips in beef dripping, chip butties and mushy peas. Upstairs is an altogether more glamourous affair, with the Oyster Bar serving champagne and Cornish oysters.

Don't bother

Worst chips ever!
Haphazard service, uncomfortable cramped seating, lousy tartare sauce. Go elsewhere!

Stein's Fish and Chips

We tried both the take away and the restaurant.
Both were excellent.
The eat in restaurant is completely unpretentious and reasonably priced but really high quality seafood.
You can't book, turn up and wait to be seated, it's well worth the wait

Don't Go!

Kept waiting for ages by the surly staff. We ordered fish chilli burgers and were horrified to be served a bread roll with a piece of battered cod and whole, sliced, raw chillies. It was awful.

Rick Stein - Nein!

Kept us waiting outside for 10 minutes after opening time while staff had a "meeting" in full view of the front door, and hungry queuing customers. Not impressed! In fact, we were so unimpressed we went across the way to Pizza Express and had a wonderful meal there instead.

COULD DO BETTER

A few friends and I thought we'd treat ourselves to some of Rick Stein's famous fish and chips from their new take away in Falmouth. After ordering very quickly we then had to wait 15 minutes for our order to be cooked. I ordered the lemon sole at £8.95, which was only about 3 x 6 inches small and over cooked when it finally arrived! I must say the chips where good though.

I would recommend Harbour Light fish and chip shop about 100 meters up the road, which I had a few days later to get a comparison, I ordered lemon sole again which was cheaper, bigger and cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. It has also won the Greenest chippie award and they only serve fish from sustainable sources and have stopped selling skate and cod roe.
