A guide to the West Country from the people that know…

Dozmary Pool, Colliford Lake

Thought by some to be where Sir Bedivere threw Excalibur into the water, thanks to Tennyson's description in the Idylls of the King where 'on one side lay the ocean, and on one lay a great water', Dozmary would be the 'great water' to Colliford Lake's 'ocean'. But that's probably not the case. It is a beautiful spot though, and if you haven't tried Brown Gelly, don't worry, it's actually a hill with amazing views and Cornwall's best collection of Bronze Age cairns. This is a moderately difficult walk covering over eight miles. It's easier when the weather is good.
