A guide to the West Country from the people that know…

Redruth

Falling into the category of south Cornwall because of its position south of the A30 spine road, the town is actually close to the coastline of north Cornwall. Its inland location makes it easy to get to and a good base for exploring all the county. Redruth was previously a very rich mining town, when sales of tin and copper were at their peak, evidence of which can be seen in some of the remaining architecture. However, since the decline of the industry it is now best known as being a heritage town, rich in history with plenty of ruins testament to its past. The landscape of the area forms peaks and vales, with an interesting geology including the mound at Carn Brea which has been described as 'perhaps the most important archaeological site in the county' thanks to its plethora of archaeological finds stretching back through the ages.
