Just what you want in a seaside village - whitewashed cottages, higgledy-piggledy narrow lanes, a quaint harbour and plenty of cosy pubs and cafes to linger in.

We were expecting Bideford to be a bustling little place but on an August Saturday afternoon, it was deserted. It's a very run down little place with not a lot to offer tourists. The Pannier market was very disappointing as the fixed shops sold tourist rubbish and the market stalls in the upper section consisted of a few tiny stalls which sold cheap toys and antique books. Odd combination. It's a shame that the town is more vibrant as the location is pretty being on the estuary.
