The Lizard to Kynance
Start in the Lizard village and go past Pentreath Cove, a locals' surfing spot, and Lion Rock, across Lizard Downs and down into Kynance Cove. Enjoy the beach - there is a cafe here for refreshments and then go up the cliff on the other side to do a big loop of the nature reserve. You will pass some ancient settlements and highland cattle and then go back towards the Lizard following the raised footpath across the fields. You can finish with one of Ann’s famous pasties on the green.

Mousehole to Lamorna
Take the South West Coast Path from Mousehole harbour to the lovely cove at Lamorna. Follow the coast path signs with the sea on your left. The path hugs the coast, with opportunities for bird watching and terraces can still be seen where early daffodils were once grown for the London market. Go in April to see wild daffodils in flower. You can return by the same route or follow the signs inland from Lamorna harbour which will bring you back into Mousehole behind the bird hospital and down the h

Tregonning Hill
King-of-the-castle views from coast to coast. Tregonning Hill is steeped in history. Surveying the views across the surrounding countryside and out to sea, it is obvious why the Celts once chose this place to settle. In more recent times, Tregonning has played its part in the long-standing relationship between Cornishmen and the land, as the place where china clay was discovered in around 1745. Start in the village of Balwest (off the A394 Helston-Penzance road) and head for the Germoe w

The Hurlers and The Cheesewring
Take the opportunity of staying in this area to explore Bodmin Moor - a bleak wilderness quite unlike the traditional expectation of landscape in the West Country. The moor has many stone circles and standing stones, of which The Hurlers and The Cheesewring are two of the best known. From Minions, the highest village in Cornwall, just outside Liskeard, it is just a short distance to The Hurlers, three Bronze Age stone circles dating back to around 1500 BC. From here it is about a mile across the

Cornwall's highest summit (420m), affords views across the wild expanse of Bodmin Moor. On a good day, you can see across the county from Tintagel in the north to Fowey in the south. Drive north east of Camelford on the A39 Bude road, take the minor road to Tregoodwell and continue to the car park at the end of Roughtor Road. Bring a picnic or head to the infamous Jamaica Inn, now home to Daphne du Maurier memorabilia and a museum of smuggling.

Cadgwith to Devil's Frying Pan
Cadgwith is an idyllic fishing village with thatched cottages spilling onto a tiny beach full of fishing boats. Park above the village and join the coastal path - you will see the large white dishes of Goonhilly Earth Satellite Tracking Station and then Lloyds Signal Station. Eventually you will pass the Devil’s Frying Pan, a 200ft drop to a collapsed sea cave where the sea flows through a narrow arch at high tide.

Kennall Vale Gunpowder Works
Tucked away in a wooded valley near the village of Ponsanooth, the old Gunpowder Works were in operation from the 1800s until the early 20th Century, when they were forced to close due to the invention of dynamite. Today, the remains stand in a nature reserve maintained by The Cornwall Wildlife Trust. The old ruins, beech woods and Kendall river make for a pleasant walk. Park in the village of Ponsanooth, walk past the shop and up the steep hill. The reserve entrance is on your right.
