The Lizard to Kynance
Start in the Lizard village and go past Pentreath Cove, a locals' surfing spot, and Lion Rock, across Lizard Downs and down into Kynance Cove. Enjoy the beach - there is a cafe here for refreshments and then go up the cliff on the other side to do a big loop of the nature reserve. You will pass some ancient settlements and highland cattle and then go back towards the Lizard following the raised footpath across the fields. You can finish with one of Ann’s famous pasties on the green.

Perranuthnoe
The path runs along the coast on the eastern side of Mount’s Bay. Pass the jagged rocks of Cudden Point to Prussia Cove, famous for its rock pools and caves as well as the smuggler John Carter, whose obsession with Frederick the Great, the King of Prussia, led to the naming of the area. Heading west will take you to Marazion.

Tregonning Hill
King-of-the-castle views from coast to coast. Tregonning Hill is steeped in history. Surveying the views across the surrounding countryside and out to sea, it is obvious why the Celts once chose this place to settle. In more recent times, Tregonning has played its part in the long-standing relationship between Cornishmen and the land, as the place where china clay was discovered in around 1745. Start in the village of Balwest (off the A394 Helston-Penzance road) and head for the Germoe war memorial, which sits on top of remains of the Celtic settlement.

Cadgwith to Devil's Frying Pan
Cadgwith is an idyllic fishing village with thatched cottages spilling onto a tiny beach full of fishing boats. Park above the village and join the coastal path - you will see the large white dishes of Goonhilly Earth Satellite Tracking Station and then Lloyds Signal Station. Eventually you will pass the Devil’s Frying Pan, a 200ft drop to a collapsed sea cave where the sea flows through a narrow arch at high tide.

Hayle King George V Memorial Walk
This level walk runs alongside the Copperhouse tidal pool, a reminder of Hayle's heyday during the Industrial Revolution which is now home to a rich variety of birdlife. The trail, about three quarters of a mile long, goes through former GWR land which was landscaped and planted as part of Hayle's Millenium Project and won gold in the South West in Bloom competition. Go on a Sunday during the summer, when the route is closed to vehicles, to enjoy a totally traffic-free stroll.

 | You’re not alone if the south west of Cornwall is a bit of a mystery to you - this area is perhaps less well-trodden than other areas and tranquility is up for grabs here even at the very height of the summer. This most southerly corner of England dangles precariously into the Atlantic; the Lizard peninsula contains a raft of diminutive coves and tiny harbours that make exploring this stretch of coastline endlessly fascinating. |
