Glendurgan Garden
A sheltered valley garden bordering the Helford River next door to Trebah. 'A little 'peace' of heaven on earth' is how the Fox family, who donated Glendurgan to the National Trust, described the garden. With fine trees, rare and exotic plants from all over the world, carpets of wild flowers, and stunning spring displays of camellias and magnolias, it is a little slice of peace served up on the banks of the Helford. The Maze and the 'Giant's Stride' rope swing are firm favourites with the kids;

Helford
The village of Helford is a hidden gem of a place, secreted on the banks of the Helford River and surrounded by ancient woodland, deep valleys and creeks. Take a passenger ferry along the river and you’ll feel as if you’ve entered another world, a peaceful refuge from the traffic and crowds of the 21st century. It’s impossible not to think of smugglers, pirates and Daphne du Maurier’s tortured heroines as you slide across the water through this beautiful corner of Cornwall.

Kennall Vale Gunpowder Works
Tucked away in a wooded valley near the village of Ponsanooth, the old Gunpowder Works were in operation from the 1800s until the early 20th Century, when they were forced to close due to the invention of dynamite. Today, the remains stand in a nature reserve maintained by The Cornwall Wildlife Trust. The old ruins, beech woods and Kendall river make for a pleasant walk. Park in the village of Ponsanooth, walk past the shop and up the steep hill. The reserve entrance is on your right.
