Trebah Garden
There's subtropical lushness around every corner at these stunning gardens on the banks of the Helford River. The views from the 18th Century house across the gardens to the river are not to be missed. Wend your way through camellia groves and chusan palms, woodlands and bamboo; meander alongside pools and streams, giant-leafed gunnera and hydrangeas, to emerge onto Trebah's private beach. Perfect for a swim and a picnic in summer. Not picnic weather? Head to the Planters Cafe (winner of the 2008 Cornwall Tourism Award for Popular Restaurant/Cafe of the Year) or have a browse in the gallery and plant shops. One of Cornwall's, if not England's, finest gardens.

Glendurgan Garden
A sheltered valley garden bordering the Helford River next door to Trebah. 'A little 'peace' of heaven on earth' is how the Fox family, who donated Glendurgan to the National Trust, described the garden. With fine trees, rare and exotic plants from all over the world, carpets of wild flowers, and stunning spring displays of camellias and magnolias, it is a little slice of peace served up on the banks of the Helford. The Maze and the 'Giant's Stride' rope swing are firm favourites with the kids; the impressive Laurel Maze will baffle and delight all ages.

Cadgwith
Tucked away on the tip of the wild Lizard peninsula, Cadgwith is a gorgeous harbour village with ‘chocolate box’ charm by the bucketful. Thatched cottages line the narrow streets with evocative names like ‘Kiddleywink’ and ‘Dolphin Cottage’. The friendly village pub, the Cadgwith Cove Inn, is steeped in history and makes a great place for an evening meal – much of the seafood on the menu is landed at the cove itself. Pop in on a Friday night and you might just find yourself joining in with the weekly gig by the Cadgwith Singers.

Terence Coventry Sculpture Park
Strong figurative sculptures are displayed on the cliff top here above Coverack. Coventry has a habit of sculpting animals that have been familiar to him through his years as a Cornish pig farmer, such as bulls, cows and birds. His work has been exhibited at the Peggy Guggenheim, Venice, the Royal Academy and the Gallery Pangolin, Gloucestershire to mention just a few.

Cadgwith to Devil's Frying Pan
Cadgwith is an idyllic fishing village with thatched cottages spilling onto a tiny beach full of fishing boats. Park above the village and join the coastal path - you will see the large white dishes of Goonhilly Earth Satellite Tracking Station and then Lloyds Signal Station. Eventually you will pass the Devil’s Frying Pan, a 200ft drop to a collapsed sea cave where the sea flows through a narrow arch at high tide.

Helford
The village of Helford is a hidden gem of a place, secreted on the banks of the Helford River and surrounded by ancient woodland, deep valleys and creeks. Take a passenger ferry along the river and you’ll feel as if you’ve entered another world, a peaceful refuge from the traffic and crowds of the 21st century. It’s impossible not to think of smugglers, pirates and Daphne du Maurier’s tortured heroines as you slide across the water through this beautiful corner of Cornwall.
