Here are a few hints for your trip beyond Penzance and St Ives to the Far West.
Day 1 - Go to Marazion and depending on the tide either walk along the causeway or take the special ferry to St Michael’s Mount www.stmichaelsmount.co.uk. Please note that the paths are cobbled and the climb to the medieval castle is steep. The National Trust Sail Loft restaurant nearby is good for lunch. Enjoy the beach and shops in Marazion in the afternoon, or drive to nearby Trengwainton Garden www.nationaltrust.org.uk making a small detour if you wish to buy some plants at Hardy Exotics Nursery at Whitecross www.hardyexotics.co.uk.
Day 2 - Spend the morning at the Tate St Ives www.tate.org.uk/stives. Wend your way slowly back through the town, dropping into the galleries that take your fancy, and have lunch overlooking the almost Caribbean beach at the Porthminster Beach Cafe www.porthminstercafe.co.uk. The entrance ticket to the Tate St Ives also covers a visit to the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden www.tate.org.uk/stives/hepworth in the town, so the afternoon can be enjoyably spent without returning to your car.
Day 3 - Take a clifftop walk at Zennor and find out about the Mermaid of Zennor who lured a local lad to live with her on the seabed of the cove, and then drop into The Tinners Arms www.tinnersarms.com for lunch. Find out how this area became an important part of the Industrial Revolution by visiting Geevor Tin Mine www.geevor.com. Take a tour in the narrow 18th Century tunnels even if it doesn't go the full 1,500 feet down and three miles out to sea or stay on the surface and pan for gold.
