A guide to the West Country from the people that know…

The Ship Inn

Set right by the harbour, this pub offers a great menu and in winter, two roaring log fires. The South West Coast Path passes right by the door, making it an ideal place to stop and refuel. Prepare to eat early as meals are served in the bar area and space is limited. Children are not allowed in the main bar but there is additional seating next door.

The Ship sits right on the harbour at this pretty Cornish fishing village. In summer you can sit outside and enjoy a pint in the fresh sea air, watching the boats bobbing on the water. On stormy days in winter, it's a great place to hunker down in front of the fire and watch as waves break over the harbour wall.

I have lived in Porthleven all my life and would definitely recommend The Ship Inn. It is by far the best pub to eat in in Porthleven. Very good food, can be a bit pricey for some dishes but I have never had a bad meal and the portions are good. Fantastic views of the harbour (great in a storm) and lovely open fires in the winter - definitely my number one drinking pub in the village!

Stunning position, excellent garden looking over harbour. Good pub food, particularly the homemade steak pie.
