Stithians Lake

Its reputation as one of the windiest inland waters in England makes this a popular spot for windsurfers and sailors. The Angling and Watersports Centre also offers canoeing and rowing lessons as well as fly fishing permits. There's plenty to do off the reservoir too, with a children's play ship, bird watching, walks and a family-friendly cycle trail.

More a puddle than a lake!

Stithians lake is actually a reservoir, rather than a lake, and as such the water level rises and falls. When we visited in October 2011, the lake was very dry, and really not an attractive place to visit at all. The family friendly Golden Lion pub was reasonable, offering good food and beer on the shore of the lake, but other than revisiting this pub we probably wouldn't return.

A great place to learn to sail!

Getting on the water whilst being surrounded by land on all sides provides a great, safe environment to learn to sail or try new equipment. My wife and I took some sailing lessons here, friendly staff and a really up-to-date range of kit made for a great experience. Very impressed!
