Follow the signs past the main gate of RNAS Culdrose and you will find the viewing enclosure, giving panoramic views across the airfield of the largest helicopter airbase in Europe. Not much flying takes place for 3 weeks during August because of summer holidays!

The enclosure provides a nice viewing area with cafe, but on the day we visited there was little activity on the airfield... but you can get a closer view by joining the Culdrose tour (booked in the cafe). As an ex-WREN Air Mechanic, my wife found the whole experience very nostalgic and thoroughly enjoyed the tour. I found the tour interesting throughout - but it's not really suitable for children under age 10 or so, and then only if they have an interest in such things. We were lucky inasmuch that the tours are often cancelled without notice if insufficient guests turn up - so be prepared to be disappointed!
