Abbotsbury Swannery

Swans have lived here for 600 years; at around the end of May, visitors can watch cygnets taking their first tentative steps.

Abbotsbury Swannery

We spent a really good morning at Abbotsbury Swannery. The walks are pleasant and it is great to be around so many swans. Feeding time is one of the highlights and this takes place at 12.00 and 16.00. Children are invited to feed the swans and this was great fun. We had lunch there and can recommend the food.

It's a short walk from the entrance/shop to the swannery, but you can take a tractor ride which was fun but it does cost 50p each way per person. Also, there's a great maze to get lost in!

If you are taking the family, check out the opening times for the childrens farm. In September, it is only open at the weekends.

As featured on the BBC's Coast series (28/7/2010) - Abbotsbury Swannery in Dorset is unique. This is the only place in the world where you are able to walk through the heart of a colony of nesting Mute Swans. A visit to the Swannery is considered one of the best things to do in Dorset.

Combine your visit with a visit to Abbotsbury Gardens - both well worth the visit. Abbotsbury village itself it very attractive.

Abbotsbury Swannery is a good place for adults and children and they have a petting farm which has a small adventure playground and is very child friendly.
